President Joe Biden’s decision not to file for New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary has sparked outrage among the state’s Democrats.
The move aligns with the DNC’s plan to prioritize South Carolina’s primary, potentially jeopardizing Biden’s standing in the 2024 general election.
Despite the absence of his name on the ballot, there’s a write-in effort to support Biden in New Hampshire. (Trending: Democrat Excludes White People From Holiday Party In Controversial Email)
The state’s Democratic Party chairman has expressed confidence in Biden’s ability to win the primary, while a challenger, Rep. Dean Phillips, has gained traction, with notable support in state polling.
“While the president wishes to participate in the primary, he is obligated to comply” with the DNC, Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez wrote.
“The president looks forward to having his name on New Hampshire’s general election ballot as the nominee of the Democratic Party after officially securing the nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, where he will tirelessly campaign to earn every single vote in the Granite State next November,” she added.
“We’ve been doing it for over 100 years now, and I was really disappointed that the president decided to let [the] DNC put South Carolina above New Hampshire,” Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) said.
“In some respects, the write-in campaign could backfire on the president,” Steve Shurtleff said.
“If he isn’t successful. It would really put them in a bad light coming out of New Hampshire,” he added.
“He’s really got to dominate the balloting.”
“For congressman Phillips, just to come within maybe 10 points of the president in the final numbers, I think that’d be a victory in itself.”
The write-in campaign, supported by Democratic figures, aims to bolster Biden’s presence in the primary, but faces budgetary constraints.
The state’s sample ballot features Phillips and Marianne Williamson, with Phillips emphasizing New Hampshire as a crucial pathway to the nomination.
“The reality is that Joe Biden will win the New Hampshire First-in-the-Nation Primary in January, win renomination in Chicago and will be re-elected next November,” Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley said.
“New Hampshire voters know and trust Joe Biden, that’s why he is leading Trump in New Hampshire by double digits.”
Biden’s support in the state has declined, while Phillips and Williamson have gained notable percentages in recent polling.
