Firefighters in Minnesota rescued a dog from Lake Superior after it jumped into a shipping canal and began to drown.

The rescue took place in extreme cold water and ice, with crews braving 8-foot waves to reach the struggling pet.

Despite the challenges, the dog was successfully pulled to safety by the firefighters and a rescue boat. (Trending: Here Are The Most Disturbing Ways Hunter Biden Spent His Millions)

The exhausted dog was treated for exposure and reunited with its owners.

Firefighters warned the public against attempting such rescues without proper training and equipment, emphasizing the potential dangers of such actions.

“We have learned in the fire service that if we do not respond to help in these situations that bystanders and owners likely will take action on their own,” the fire department stated.

“Without the proper training and equipment this most often results in the firefighters now responding to a call for a person in harm’s way.”

“Given the wave and temperature conditions in the canal last night, anyone entering the water without the proper training and equipment would most likely have ended in tragedy.”
