Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. defense contractors in Washington, D.C., seeking support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities and proposing the establishment of a European defense hub in Ukraine.
The relationship between U.S. defense contractors and Ukraine has strengthened since Russia’s invasion in 2022, with contractors sponsoring events for the Ukrainian armed forces.
The move has raised concerns about the intersection of business and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as the U.S. has committed substantial military assistance to Ukraine since the invasion. (Trending: LeBron James Shares Gun Advice For Americans)
Zelenskyy wrote on X, “I met with leaders of US defense companies and expressed my gratitude to every American worker who manufactures weapons that help us safeguard our people and defend our land.”
“I appreciated all American companies that attended last week’s US-Ukraine defense industry conference,” he continued.
“I also proposed establishing a European defense hub in Ukraine. We are prepared to make all essential decisions, cut red tape, and allocate orders,” encouraged the Ukrainian leader.
“We are ready to produce more ammunition and military vehicles, but we require support. It is important to develop joint production of artillery ammo, air defense systems, and artillery and missile systems.”
Adding, “Together, we can create more jobs, generate more strength, and provide more opportunities for both of our nations.”
Vox reported that a think tank source said, “It’s really bizarre to me that they would put that on an invitation.”
“The fact that they don’t feel sheepish about it, that’s interesting,” reported the outlet.
