The U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether former President Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.
Special Counsel Jack Smith petitioned the court to expedite the decision to prevent delays in the trial set for March 4, 2024.

The Supreme Court’s decision could impact the trial’s timing.
“It is of paramount public importance that respondent’s claims of immunity be resolved as expeditiously as possible,” wrote Jack Smith.
Smith wrote that he “recognizes that this is an extraordinary request. This is an extraordinary case,” about wanting too finish the trial before the presidential election.
The case, involving criminal charges and other legal actions, is of significant national importance and is being closely watched.
