Soccer Club President Punches Ref In Face

The president of a soccer club in Turkey attacked a referee during a match, leading to the suspension of all soccer matches in the league.

The referee was hospitalized with a slight fracture near his eye, while the club president was at risk of a heart attack and ordered to be arrested.

“This attack is unfortunate and shameful in the name of football,” Turkish Football Federation’s Mehmet Buyukeksi said.

“We say enough is enough.”

“The irresponsible statements of club presidents, managers, coaches and television commentators targeting referees have opened the way for this attack.”

The incident has sparked discussions about the treatment of referees in the country.
