The Walt Disney Company is facing a lawsuit from 9,000 women alleging gender-based pay discrimination, with a judge rejecting Disney’s attempt to dismiss the case.

The lawsuit, which would be the largest certified under California’s Equal Pay Act, accuses Disney of paying women less than their male counterparts across various divisions.

Disney denied the accusations, claiming the comparisons of salaries are inaccurate due to decentralized decision-making.

“Disney has been gaslighting these women for four years,” the plaintiffs’ attorney Lori Andrus said.

“They love their jobs. They love the brand. But they want to be respected and treated the way they should be in the workplace.”

The next step is a status meeting in February.

This comes as Disney has faced a major financial crisis and layoffs, despite championing inclusivity and diversity.
