Two Chinese-made passenger jetliners, the C919 and ARJ21, landed in Hong Kong, marking China’s efforts to break into the Western-dominated aircraft market.

The C919, manufactured by the state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), aims to challenge foreign models like Boeing’s 737 MAX and the Airbus A320.

Despite sourcing many parts from abroad, Chinese leader Xi Jinping aims to end China’s reliance on foreign technology in strategic industries such as aviation. (Trending: Hunter Biden’s Own Memoir Is Coming Back To Haunt Him In Criminal Trial)

The C919 has already secured significant deals with airlines, and a new Brunei-based airline plans to purchase 30 of the aircraft.
