The Biden administration has informed lawmakers that approximately 5,000 illegal immigrants are being released into the U.S. daily, with over 670,000 evading Border Patrol last fiscal year.

They are being released to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and an average of 1,600 migrants are processed and released daily via humanitarian parole.

The administration has called for additional border funding, but it has been blocked by Republicans seeking limits on releases into the U.S.

The administration claims it is dealing with a hemisphere-wide crisis and has presented proposals to address the situation.

President Biden expressed openness to compromises on border solutions, while DHS Secretary Mayorkas defended the administration’s handling of the crisis.

“We’ve presented proposals that address the situation, that provide real practical solutions and also do not do violence to our fundamental values,” Mayorkas said.

“We are a country of refugees. We do have asylum laws. We do have refugee laws. We abide by our international obligations that are long-standing,” he said.

“Some of the [Republican] proposals are reasonable and worthy of discussion. Others are, frankly, not,” he said.
