Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is facing nine new tax evasion charges filed by the Justice Department.
The Trump-appointed Judge Mark Scarsi will oversee his trial.

Prosecutors claim Hunter lived an extravagant lifestyle while avoiding taxes and could face up to 17 years in prison.
The indictment alleges that although Hunter Biden was gifted millions from a friend, he “spent this money on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature, in short, everything but his taxes.”
“The Defendant engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019,” it reads.
“The Defendant spent approximately $1 million in 2016, $1.4 million in 2017, $1.8 million in 2018, and $600,000 in 2019” the indictment alleges.
The documents argue that none of this financial gifts were used towards “any of his federal individual income tax liabilities for 2016-2019.”
Adding, “Between 2016 and October 15, 2020, the Defendant spent this money on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature, in short, everything but his taxes.”
“Notably, in 2020, well after he had regained his sobriety, and when he finally filed his outstanding 2016, 2017, and 2018 Forms 1040” the indictment reads, “the Defendant did not direct any payments toward his tax liabilities for each of those years,” alleges the government.
He also faces felony gun charges in a separate trial.
The indictment alleges that he spent millions on luxury items and failed to pay taxes, despite receiving substantial financial support.
Hunter’s attorney claims the charges are politically motivated and argues that if his last name were different, the charges would not have been brought.
