Leading Senate Republicans believe the 2024 GOP presidential primary is effectively over, with Donald Trump leading comfortably in polls and his rivals mainly engaging in infighting.
Even Trump’s critics acknowledge his likely nomination, despite legal challenges.

“The cake is baked,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham.
“I think this is over,“ added Trump supporter Sen. Eric Schmitt.
“The sooner you get to the [GOP’s 2024] convention the better, but I think he’s got the nomination in hand,” he continued.
“I think it was over before it began,” said Sen. Mitt Romney, admitting Nikki has “a long shot” to win th GOP nomination.
“I think Trump is the presumptive nominee and has been from day one,” Romney said.
While a few senators remain hopeful of an upset, many are resigning themselves to Trump’s dominance, as evidenced by recent endorsements.
Nonetheless, some hold onto the possibility of unexpected developments reshaping the race.
