The House of Representatives voted to censure Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), for pulling a fire alarm during a dramatic floor vote, with most Democrats supporting the censure.
Bowman’s action caused chaos and forced the evacuation of the Capitol building, despite no actual emergency.
Bowman denied doing it on purpose and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge. (Trending: Hunter Biden Indicted on 9 New Criminal Charges)
“I was rushing to make a vote, I was trying to get through a door. I thought the alarm would open the door,” Bowman said originally.
The censure resolution was introduced by Rep. Lisa McLain, R-Mich., and despite Democratic attempts to stop it, the motion proceeded.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries accused Republicans of wasting time on the issue.
“We’re all on the House floor wasting time talking about fire alarms. Not the economy, not inflation, not affordable housing, not lowering costs, not the gun violence epidemic that continues to claim the lives of our young people all across America,” Jeffries said.
