Former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry announced her bid for U.S. House to challenge Rep. Mark Green, citing issues such as mass shootings, Tennessee’s abortion ban, rural hospital closures, and the opioid epidemic.
Barry, who resigned as mayor in 2018 due to a felony theft plea related to an affair with her bodyguard, emphasized taking responsibility for her actions.

“Today, I’m announcing my campaign for Congress because working families have been ignored for far too long,” Barry said.
“We need an economy and a government that works for everyone. If I can save even one other parent from burying a child, it will be worth every effort.”
“I don’t think anybody should be defined by their worst moments,” Barry added.
“It’s what you do next that counts.”
“I look at the total dysfunction in Congress and its failure to make any kind of difference in the lives of our families,” Barry said.
“It’s outrageous. We don’t have to tolerate it.”
Her campaign also focuses on combating substance abuse stigma following her son’s death.
Green’s team expressed readiness to continue fighting for their values and principles in response to Barry’s announcement.
