A woman was arrested for shoplifting at a Walmart in Michigan during a “shop with a cop” event, where over 70 police officers were present.
The officers were at the store to help children from families in need shop for the holidays.
The woman allegedly stole about $730 worth of goods and was caught loading the stolen items into her car, parked next to a police cruiser. (Trending: Trump Announces Major Promise For 2024)
Michigan State Police Lt. Rene Gonzalez said, “I do have to say it surprised me because when I’m driving a patrol car, people slow down.”
“When you see 75 cops in the store, I mean, I don’t know if maybe they thought we were too busy,” she quipped.
Gonzalez was at the store with other officers doing community outreach when the incident occurred.
“We bring children that might otherwise not have a good Christmas get to come to the store,” the lieutenant said about the event.
“They get $100, sometimes a $150 gift card to go and shop for themselves with your family,” she explained.
The thief was arrested and will be charged with retail fraud.
