Jayapal faced heavy criticism for her call for a “balanced” approach to condemning such acts, sparking outrage from various political figures and commentators.
“I should not have to say this in 2023 but here we are: RAPE IS RAPE,” Christine Pelosi wrote.
“Do not minimize, excuse, “balance” or “both sides” sexual assault – that is victim blaming we have spent decades trying to undo in the laws, the courts and the hearts and minds of the people.”
“Rep. Pramila Jayapal is an absolute monster who loathes Israel & Jews,” wrote Jason Rantz.
“She repeatedly & falsely accuses Israel of ‘indiscriminately’ targeting civilians & hospitals.”
“Democrat Pramila Jayapal justifies rapes of Jewish women in Israel Hamas conflict by saying about rapes ‘it happens in war,’ wrote Eric Abbenante.
“Jayapal said we need to be balanced when talking about Israel and Hamas.”
“If you’re a Jew voting for Democrat you aren’t paying attention.”
Reports uncovered a pattern of sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli women and girls, leading to further reactions and criticisms of Jayapal’s comments.
