Police in California are searching for a suspect who was caught on camera stealing a Christmas tree from the roof of a family’s SUV in a parking lot on Dec. 1.
The theft, lasting over five minutes, was captured from two different angles.
The victim, who bought the tree for $250, was given a new one for free by the lot where the original tree was purchased. (Trending: Trump Announces Major Promise For 2024)
“A vehicle pulled up next to the victim’s and quickly cut the ropes holding the tree to the roof, slid it right off and into the cargo area of the suspect SUV,” wrote the San Mateo Police Department on Facebook.
“If you are out shopping, protect your packages, don’t leave them in your vehicles, condense shopping bags, avoid multiple trips to your car, and if you have shopping or errands to run and plan on getting a tree, save the visit to the tree lot for the end,” advised the police.
As of Monday, the suspect had not been apprehended.
The police department advised the public to safeguard their packages while shopping and to avoid leaving them in their vehicles.
