FBI Director Christopher Wray has raised concerns about the heightened risk of a terrorist attack in the United States following the recent Hamas atrocity in Israel.
He emphasized the increased threat level since October 7 and the surge in attacks on U.S. bases and troops.
Wray highlighted the urgent efforts to counter threats against Jewish and Muslim communities, as well as the influx of fentanyl from Mexico and potential risks associated with migrant crossings. (Trending: Trump Announces Major Promise For 2024)
“The threat level has gone to a whole other level since October 7,” said Dir. Wray.
“What I would say that is unique about the environment that we’re in right now, in my career, is that, while there may have been times over the years where individual threats could have been higher here or there than where they may be right now, I’ve never seen a time where all the threats, or so many of the threats, are all elevated, all at exactly the same time,” he continued.
“Obviously, all of us missed it. Would you say there’s multiple blinking red lights out there?” asked Sen. Graham.
“I see blinking red lights everywhere,” answered Wray.
He warned of the potential for violent extremists to draw inspiration from the recent events and stressed the need for continuous vigilance.
Additionally, Wray advocated for the renewal of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, expressing the critical role it plays in national security.
“702 allows us to stay a step ahead of foreign actors located outside the United States who pose a threat to national security,” said Wray to the lawmakers.
Adding, “And the expiration of our 702 authorities would be devastating to the FBI’s ability to protect Americans from those threats,”
