A recent study from Finland reveals that individuals who undergo transgender medical treatment continue to require significant psychiatric care even after the treatment.

The study, published in the journal European Psychiatry, analyzed 3,665 individuals who sought gender identity services between 1996 and 2019.

It found that these individuals exhibited more psychiatric needs both before and after treatment compared to the general population. (Trending: Bombshell Email Uncovered Between Joe Biden And Hunter)

“Both before and after contacting [gender identity services], they present with many more common psychiatric needs than do their matched population controls, even when medical [gender reassignment] interventions are carried out,” the study said.

Patients seeking transgender medical treatment at “ever younger ages and with more psychiatric needs,” wrote the authors.

Additionally, the study’s lead author, Dr. Riittakerttu Kaltiala, who previously pioneered transgender hormone treatments for children, expressed concerns about medicalizing gender-distressed children and criticized the “affirming” model of transgender services for children.

“We were being told to intervene in healthy, functioning bodies simply on the basis of a young person’s shifting feelings about gender,” recalled Dr. Riittakerttu Kaltiala.

“The young people we were treating were not thriving. Instead, their lives were deteriorating,” added the researcher.

The study also noted an increase in psychiatric needs among adolescents and girls seeking transgender treatments, with mood disorders and anxiety being the most common issues.
