The Israeli military has developed large pumps to potentially flood Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip with seawater, aiming to drive out terrorists and hostages.
Israel has identified around 800 tunnels and believes the network may be larger.
The plan to flood the tunnels is being considered, but its effectiveness is uncertain due to the unknown details of the tunnels and surrounding ground. (Trending: Olympic Gold Medalist Sentenced For Jan 6)
“We are not sure how successful pumping will be since nobody knows the details of the tunnels and the ground around them,” an IDF source said.
“It’s impossible to know if that will be effective because we don’t know how seawater will drain in tunnels no one has been in before.”
An Israel Defense Forces official said, “The IDF is operating to dismantle Hamas’s terror capabilities in various ways, using different military and technological tools.”
“Our policy is clear — we will forcefully strike any threat posed against our territory,” IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari stated.
The U.S. has been informed of the plan, and Israel is committed to dismantling Hamas’s capabilities.
The IDF has launched numerous airstrikes against Hamas targets and is determined to protect civilians.
