Former New Jersey governor and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie failed to gather the required 2,000 in-state signatures to be on the primary ballot in Maine.

Despite submitting over 6,000 signatures, only 844 were deemed valid, and his campaign plans to appeal the decision.

Democratic candidate Marianne Williamson will also be excluded from the state’s March primary. (Trending: Olympic Gold Medalist Sentenced For Jan 6)

“The deadline for candidates for president to turn in a sufficient number of signatures to be on the March 5, 2024, primary election ballot was 5 p.m. today,” Maine’s Secretary of State stated.

With 43 days until the Iowa caucuses, Christie aims to outlast his 2016 bid and has positioned himself as an anti-Trump Republican in the 2024 campaign.
