Texas Governor Greg Abbott plans to sign a new state law authorizing every police officer to arrest immigrants who illegally entered Texas.
The legislation would also allow a judge to order immigrants to return to Mexico.
Abbott expressed concern over the high number of illegal crossings under President Biden and criticized the open border policies. (Trending: Tucker Reveals The Moment He Became A Full-Blown Trump Supporter)
“Texas is having to step up and do even more to make sure that we deny illegal entry into the state of Texas and as a result … in two weeks I’ll be singing [the] new law,” said Gov. Greg Abbott.
“The problem is extraordinarily bad,” Abbott said.
“The numbers are high, and that is because Joe Biden continues to lay out the welcome mat welcoming illegal immigrants into the United States of America,” added the Texan Republican.
“That’s why Texas is having to step up and apprehend as many of these people as possible to make sure that they’re not posing a threat to our country, but this is a very serious existential threat to our country caused by Joe Biden,” Abbot told reporters.
Adding, “And that’s exactly why Texas is taking extraordinary steps to try to crack down on it.”
Texas has taken steps to apprehend illegal immigrants, including sending tens of thousands of migrants to Democrat-run cities.
The state also deployed deterrence buoys, leading to legal battles with the Department of Justice.
If the state fails in its next challenge, Abbott said they would take the issue to the Supreme Court.
