A new report from Consumer Reports reveals that electric vehicles (EVs) have almost 80% more problems than gas-powered cars, with issues including long charging times, lack of charging stations, lithium-ion battery problems, and engine failures.
The survey data compared EVs from 2021-2023 with other vehicle types, showing that EVs had more than twice the problem rates of internal combustion vehicles in 2021 and 2022, but the rates were more closely aligned in 2023.

The drop in EV sales has led car dealers to urge President Biden to abandon EV mandates and carbon emission regulations.
“The reality, however, is that electric vehicle demand today is not keeping up with the large influx of EVs arriving at our dealerships prompted by the current regulations. [EVs] are stacking up on our lots,” the group of U.S. dealers wrote.
This lack of enthusiasm for EVs has also affected automakers, with Tesla, GM, Mercedes-Benz, and Ford slowing their rapid EV production plans.
