Israeli officials had obtained Hamas’s battle plan for a terrorist attack on October 7 over a year before it happened, but dismissed it as aspirational and beyond Hamas’s capabilities.
They now acknowledge that they could have prevented or mitigated the attacks if they had taken the warnings seriously.

“But Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, considering it too difficult for Hamas to carry out.”
Netanyahu and other top leaders have deferred questions about the attack until after the war.
