Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman and Jared Moskowitz discussed reports that Hunter Biden has been asked to testify in a deposition on December 13, but only in public.
They argue that Hunter Biden’s willingness to testify is calling the Republicans’ bluff and eliminating their last-ditch effort to salvage the investigation.
They criticized Republicans for not wanting the American people to see what Hunter Biden has to say, suggesting they lack the evidence they claim to have. (Trending: Donald Trump Confronts Bud Light CEO)
“And it is baffling that the Republicans are saying no. They don’t want the American people to see what Hunter Biden has to say, because they know it will be the final nail in the coffin of this pathetic, failed investigation,” Goldman said.
“The fact that Hunter Biden is willing to testify at all is calling their bluff and eliminating this last ditch effort to try to salvage this investigation.”
“If they had the evidence, if they had overwhelming evidence on Hunter Biden, rest assured Chairman Clouseau would have a public hearing with every media you would imagine,” added Moskowitz.
“Let’s take a step back. The last-gasp play by Chairman Comer as part of this completely failed investigation, was to send subpoenas to Hunter Biden and all of the Biden family members, including grandchildren and daughters-in-law and widows of Beau Biden,” Goldman said.
“In reality, what they wanted was for the Biden family to refuse to come in, and then they could argue there is obstruction of justice because there are all those allegations out there, and they refuse to anw them, then you American people must accept the allegations.”
“The fact that Hunter Biden is willing to testify at all is calling their bluff, and is eliminating this last-ditch effort to try to salvage this investigation.”
“He then took it a step further, and very correctly because I’ve been in these closed-door interviews and Republicans come out and completely misrepresent the testimony of the witnesses. Cherry-pick it, mislead, and provide disinformation to somehow support their completely baseless allegations.”
“And Hunter Biden is saying, ‘I’m not going to be subject to your control over my testimony. I’m willing to do it. I’m happy to do it. I’m happy to answer all of your questions. I’m going to do it so the American people can see for themselves what I have to say.'”
“And it is baffling that the Republicans are saying no. They don’t want the American people to see what Hunter Biden has to say, because they know it will be the final nail in the coffin of this pathetic, failed investigation.”
MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle jumped in, asking, “If Hunter Biden says, ‘I’m on record now that I will come before the committee and answer any question you ask under oath, any question, I’ll answer it,’ and the committee says, no, you have to come in. We want to take a deposition in private. What happens? What happens if Hunter Biden ignores the subpoena to come in to a private deposition?”
“I would argue he is not ignoring the subpoena, in fact he is complying with the subpoena by coming,” Moskowitz said.
“It will be hard for them to try to hold him in contempt when he said I’m going to supply with the subpoena.”
“And Representative Goldman is exactly right. They totally expected Hunter to say I’m not going to participate in the charade of hearings. As we’ve seen for a year, the Republicans have presented no evidence. And Hunter says, ‘If you’re going to come at me in the news media for the last yar and ay all of these things, I’m going to come and get the truth out there.’
“And now Republicans are scrambling. I think the American people want to hear from Hunter Biden. The American people want to see it in public. Republicans say, transparency, bad. If they had the evidence, if they had overwhelming evidence on Hunter Biden, rest assured Chairman Clouseau would have a public hearing with every media you would imagine. He would sit down with al-Jazeera to tell them the evidence on Hunter Biden in a public setting. He would love that. The reason they don’t want that to happen, is they don’t have the evidence. They want to talk to the echo chamber. The Chairman wants to run to Sean Hannity like a wet blanket and say, ‘Hunter Biden, Hunter Biden, Hunter Biden.'”
They also emphasized the importance of transparency and public hearings.
“If you have the evidence, show it to the American people in a public hearing,” Moskowitz concluded.
