Pope Francis confirmed to a biographer his decision to take punitive measures against U.S. Cardinal Raymond Burke, revoking his pension and Vatican apartment.
The pope denied calling Burke his “enemy” and stated that he announced the revocation without giving specific explanations.
Burke has been critical of decisions made under the current papacy, but claims to be loyal to Pope Francis. (Trending: Biden Shamefully Removes God From National Address)
“I never used the word ‘enemy’ nor the pronoun ‘my.’ I simply announced the fact at the meeting of the dicastery heads, without giving specific explanations,” Pope Francis stated.
“People can draw their own conclusions about why the Holy Father told this to Austen Ivereigh and not the person concerned,” Burke said.
“It’s my duty as a cardinal to remain in Rome,” Burke added.
Despite not receiving official communication from the Vatican, Burke remains in Rome and retains his position as the cardinal protector of Sant’Agata dei Goti church.
