A New York appellate court has reinstated a gag order on former President Donald Trump and his attorneys, preventing them from making public statements about the courtroom staff in the ongoing $250 million civil fraud trial.
The order was originally issued after Trump made remarks about a clerk he claimed was biased against him.
The court received hundreds of threats against the judge and the clerk, leading to the reinstatement of the gag order. (Trending: Greta Thunberg Caught on Video Going Full Anti-Semite)
The latest ruling states, “Now, upon reading and filing the papers with respect to the motion, and due deliberation having been had thereon, It is ordered that the motion is denied; the interim relief granted by order of a Justice of this Court, dated November 16, 2023, is hereby vacated.”
“I intend to enforce the gag orders rigorously and vigorously. I want to make sure that counsel informs their clients of the fact that the stay was vacated,” said Judge Engoron.
Trump’s attorney Chris Kise said, “It is a tragic day for the rule of law, but we’re aware,” in response.
.
“How disgraceful!” posted Trump on Truth Social.
“This case should be dismissed immediately,” added the former president.
“And this rogue judge, a Trump hater, said Trump outside the courtroom.
“The only one that hates Trump more is his associate up there,” he continued.
Adding, “The person that works with him. She’s screaming into his ear almost every time we ask a question. A disgrace. It’s a disgrace.”
The trial involves allegations of fraud against Trump and his co-defendants, and Trump had urged the appeals court to continue to block the gag order, citing threats to the judge and the clerk.
The trial is ongoing, and a decision is not expected until at least the end of January.
