House Speaker Mike Johnson released thousands of hours of Jan. 6 security footage, which has been used by Republicans and far-right activists to spread false claims and conspiracy theories about the Capitol attack.
House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner supported the release, claiming it allows the public to see the truth, despite bipartisan committee findings.
The Times wrote that many Republicans are “using the Jan. 6 video to circulate an array of false claims and conspiracy theories about the largest attack on the Capitol in centuries.” (Trending: Biden Shamefully Removes God From National Address)

NBC News’ Kristen Welker pointed out that a number of Republican lawmakers have “cherry-picked some of the images to frankly further some conspiracy theories,” to which House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner replied, “I think it’s been cherry-picked by both sides.”
“I think it’s important that the speaker has taken this step because now people can see the truth.”
Turner’s repeated emphasis on “truth” is questioned, as there is no uncertainty about the insurrectionist assault on the Capitol.
