Matthew Frattasio of Massachusetts set a new fishing record in North Carolina by catching a 26-pound almaco jack near Morehead City.

He was fishing at depths of 80 feet and used live menhaden and 50-pound braid on a Daiwa Saltist MQ 14000 reel paired with a Hogy Tuna jigging rod.

Frattasio described the experience as “the most insane” in his 40-plus years of fishing, and the fish was reviewed by fisheries staff. (Trending: Donald Trump Confronts Bud Light CEO)

The record was caught with “live menhaden and 50-pound braid on a Daiwa Saltist MQ 14000 reel paired with a Hogy Tuna jigging rod.”

“In my 40-plus years of fishing, the two days on riptide charters was the most insane experience ever – non-stop on the bite for start to finish,” Frattasio said.

“After slamming Albies inshore all morning, captain Terry [Nugent] made the decision to hit deeper water off a wreck and magic happened.”

“After a few solid amber jacks, we hooked into the Almaco. Without [the] captain’s extensive knowledge, we would’ve released it. Big shoutout to my buddy Bob Savastano for taking me on this trip.”

“Georgia and Florida’s state records stand at 7-pounds 0.7-ounce, and 35-pounds 9-ounces, respectively,” the DEQ reported.

Captain Terry Nugent, who directed the trip, also praised the exceptional fishing day on his Facebook page.

“Today was one of the best days of fishing I’ve EVER experienced anywhere,” Nugent posted.

“After a legitimate 100 FISH day, Matt [Frattasio] hooked a beast that could not be tamed on an 8k combo. 2.5 hours the fish had its way with us,” Nugent wrote.
