Yemeni rebels fired two missiles at the USS Mason during its rescue operations in the Gulf of Aden.
The Mason had responded to a distress call from the M/V Central Park, which was under attack by armed individuals.

The incident highlights the importance of maritime security, with the USCENTCOM commander emphasizing the need to ensure the safety of international shipping lanes.
Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla said, “Maritime domain security is essential to regional stability.”
“We will continue to work with allies and partners to ensure the safety and security of international shipping lanes,” added the commander.
The tanker involved has links to an Israeli-owned company, and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group was deployed in response to an attack on Israel by Hamas.
