Virgin Atlantic aims to complete a transatlantic flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), marking a significant milestone in the industry’s journey to achieve net zero by 2050.
The flight, which took off from London’s Heathrow airport, seeks to prove that SAF fuel is a safe replacement for fossil-derived jet fuel.
However, SAF is still hard to come by, representing less than 0.1% of global jet fuel volumes, and more investment is needed to reach production at scale. (Trending: Chilling Surveillance Program Under Biden Exposed)

Sustainable aviation fuel is produced using a range of sustainable feedstocks like cooking oil.
“A flight powered by 100% SAF delivers a CO2 lifecycle emissions savings of up to 70%, according to Virgin, which is trying to achieve significant reductions in CO2 emissions in 2026, 2030 and 2040,” the report found.
CEO Shai Weiss said, “There is simply not enough SAF and it’s clear that in order to reach production at scale, we need to see significantly more investment.”
“This will only happen when regulatory certainty and price support mechanisms, backed by government, are in place.”
