A U.S. Navy vessel responded to a distress call from an Israeli-linked tanker off the coast of Yemen, and was then fired upon.
The tanker, managed by Zodiac Maritime, issued a distress call after being attacked by suspected pirates.
The U.S. Navy personnel pursued and arrested the attackers, and Houthi forces fired ballistic missiles at the USS Mason following the arrest. (Trending: US Troops Deliver Devastating Blow to Biden)
The vessel and crew were unharmed, and the incidents are linked to the Israel-Hamas war and wider regional conflicts.
The seizure comes after previous attacks on ships owned by Israeli billionaires and amid ongoing global shipping threats.
“Zodiac Maritime’s team in London, UK have been working closely with international naval coalition partners in the region today,” a Zodiac spokesperson said.
“We would like to thank the coalition forces who responded quickly, protecting assets in the area and upholding international maritime law.”
