A new book reports that former President Donald Trump made disparaging comments about evangelical Christians during the 2016 Republican primary.

Trump referred to evangelicals supporting Ted Cruz as “so-called Christians” and used derogatory language about them.

“You know, these so-called Christians hanging around with Ted are some real pieces of s—,” Trump told an Iowa Republican official. (Trending: US Troops Deliver Devastating Blow to Biden)

The evangelical bloc played a key role in Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

Influential evangelical leaders have expressed support for other politicians, and some have distanced themselves from Trump.

“I think America would be well served to have a choice, and I really believe Ron DeSantis should be that guy,” Vander Plaats stated, ultimately endorsing Ron DeSantis.

“And I think Iowa is tailor-made for him to win this. ”
