Local San Francisco business owner Mark Sackett condemned city leaders for failing to address issues of drug use, violence, and filth in his neighborhood, which have led to financial ruin for his businesses and forced him to anticipate their closure.
Sackett has faced difficulty in refinancing his mortgage and has lost revenue due to safety concerns in the area.
Despite his efforts to beautify the neighborhood, he feels ignored by city leadership. (Trending: Biden’s Mental Decline Getting Even Worse)
“Next door is a drug sobering center that opened last year, and Sackett said people will smoke fentanyl at his building’s loading dock,” reported local media outlets.
“He said his staff used pepper spray on four people trying to break in, and last year, someone attacked him with a knife. A window is currently broken, and he will have to pay around $4,000 to replace it,” claimed Sackett.
“They don’t even return my calls,” Sackett said about city officials.
“They care about bike lanes, nonprofits, safe injection sites. … They have just ignored small business,” he charged.
Matt Dorsey said on behalf of the city that, “especially in terms of the number of shelter-in-place hotels here, and the myriad public safety challenges attributable to open-air drug markets and public drug use.”
“For too many businesses like Mark’s, we’re just not recovering fast enough,” admitted the official.
Sackett also highlighted the irony of the city’s restrictions on business owners compared to homeless people.
“I can put a tent in front of someone’s front door and sleep… but the city comes after me for ADA compliance,” complained Sackett.
