Clay target shooting is gaining popularity as a high school sport, with a focus on attracting younger generations to shooting and hunting.
The USA Clay Target League has seen significant growth, with tens of thousands of students across 34 states participating.
Despite political challenges, the sport emphasizes safety and discipline, providing an inclusive environment where all students compete and have equal opportunities. (Trending: Biden’s Mental Decline Getting Even Worse)
The league has also helped shooting ranges increase participation across all age groups.
“If there’s not a proactive effort to embrace and encourage and reestablish so many of these awesome things, they’ll dwindle away,” warned teacher David Bradubury.
“‘Hey, we have a great sport that all your kids should participate in, and everyone can be included,'” recalled USA Clay Target League President John Nelson about his meetings with front offices.
“‘Oh, by the way, it involves a gun,'” said Nelson.
“You don’t have to be a jock,” explained Nelson.
“Kids that participate in school-sponsored sports are more likely to go to college, typically get better grades and stay away from alcohol and drugs,” he continued.
Eric Thompson, said the sport has “no benchwarmers” and enjoys watching all three of his sons compete in target shooting.
“So many times you find kids that are on sports teams that spend all the time sitting on the bench,” said Thompson.
“Here, there is no second-string. Everybody shoots, everybody competes, everybody has the same chances,” he explained.
Adding, “You got 100 kids here walking around with guns and there’s not a worry in the world about their abilities. “Every one of these kids, it’s second nature to them.”
