Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a Brazilian national, Saulo Cardona Ferreira, who entered the United States illegally and is wanted in Brazil for failing to serve a prison sentence after being convicted of raping a five-year-old child.
The arrest took place in Martha’s Vineyard, and Ferreira will be held in custody until he appears before an immigration judge.
This incident is part of a larger issue, as Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has confirmed a significant number of “gotaways” – illegal immigrants entering the United States without going through official checkpoints or making contact with Border Patrol officers.
