Former CNN president Jeff Zucker, CEO of RedBird IMI, has submitted a bid to acquire the conservative-leaning British newspaper Daily Telegraph and its sister magazine, The Spectator.

If successful, Zucker’s vision for the properties includes expanding into the U.S. while maintaining the Telegraph as a center-right media outlet.

The bid, which relies on significant financing, is under review by Lloyds and U.K. regulators due to concerns about press freedom and foreign ownership.

Despite his potential return as a media titan, Zucker does not plan to oversee day-to-day coverage or relocate to London.

This move follows Zucker’s resignation from CNN in early 2022 due to a undisclosed romantic relationship with a senior executive.
