Derek Chauvin, the ex-police officer convicted for the murder of George Floyd, was reportedly stabbed and seriously injured by a fellow inmate at a prison in Arizona.
The Bureau of Prisons confirmed the assault and stated that the individual was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Chauvin is serving sentences for violating Floyd’s civil rights and for second-degree murder.
“No employees were injured during the incident,” wrote the BOP in their statement.
“Responding employees initiated life-saving measures for one incarcerated individual,” it continued.
“Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued,” wrote the BOP.
Concluding that, “The incarcerated individual was transported by EMS to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.”
His murder conviction appeal was recently rejected by the Supreme Court.
