The tragic incident that occurred during a family Thanksgiving gathering in 2009, in which a mass shooting took place in Jupiter, Florida, has been brought to light as the holiday passes 14 years later.
Paul Merhige, a family member with a history of mental illness, opened fire, resulting in the deaths of four relatives and the critical injury of another.
“We have nothing. You have nothing,” father Michael Mirhige said. “It’s a total nightmare. Our lives have changed forever.”
The incident shed light on the issue of mass shootings within families and the challenges related to mental health and access to firearms.
