Speaker Mike Johnson recently visited former President Donald J. Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, marking his first visit since becoming the Republican presidential front-runner.
The visit comes amid criticism for his collaboration with Democrats to avert a government shutdown.
Johnson’s meeting with Trump suggests his recognition of the need to secure Trump’s support and prevent right-wing opposition to his leadership.

Johnson’s efforts to align with the far right include publicly releasing surveillance video of the Capitol attack and endorsing Trump, despite previously expressing concerns about Trump’s character.
“I endorsed him wholeheartedly for re-election in 2020, and traveled with his team as a campaign surrogate to help ensure his victory,” Johnson stated.
“I have fully endorsed him once again.”
This meeting signifies Johnson’s commitment to align closely with Trump, a move that sets him apart from previous Republican congressional leaders.
