Elon Musk’s social media company, X, plans to sue Media Matters for allegedly misrepresenting the user experience on the platform in an attempt to undermine free speech and mislead advertisers.
X has accused Media Matters of manipulating the public and advertisers by curating its timeline to misinform them about ad placements.
The company claims that only a small number of ad impressions were displayed next to the content highlighted by Media Matters.

“This week Media Matters for America posted a story that completely misrepresented the real user experience on X, in another attempt to undermine freedom of speech and mislead advertisers,” stated X/Twitter.
“The split second court opens on Monday, X Corp will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company,” Musk posted.
Several major corporations, including Apple, Disney, and Warner Bros, have joined a boycott against X.

Musk used the boycott as an opportunity to promote X’s new premium subscription service, emphasizing the absence of ads in the timeline and criticizing large advertisers as oppressors of free speech.
“Premium+ also has no ads in your timeline,” stated Musk. “Many of the largest advertisers are the greatest oppressors of your right to free speech.”
The controversy originally stemmed from Musk’s agreement with a user’s post about Jewish organizations, which sparked outrage and led to the ongoing conflict.
