Democrat congressman Daniel Goldman apologized for his comment about former President Trump, expressing his wish for Trump’s defeat without condoning harm or political violence.
The congressman’s initial remark, criticizing Trump’s rhetoric and calling for his elimination from public office, drew criticism from conservatives on social media.
Some accused Goldman of using dangerous rhetoric, while others rejected his clarification.

Rep. Daniel Goldman posted on X, “Yesterday on TV, I mistakenly used the wrong word to express the importance for America that Donald Trump doesn’t become President again.”
“While he must be defeated, I certainly wish no harm to him and do not condone political violence. I apologize for the poor choice of word,” added the New York lawmaker.
Goldman was referring to a comment he made over the weekend while discussing Trump’s actions on January 6.
“His rhetoric is really getting dangerous,” accused Goldman of Trump in an MSNBC interview.
“More and more dangerous,” he repeated.
“We saw what happened on January 6th, when he used his inflammatory rhetoric now, and his recent truth social post is incredibly, incredibly scary for anyone that might be trying to work in government. And it is just unquestionable at this point that man cannot see public office again. He is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy, and he has to be eliminated,” said Goldman.
A Trump campaign spokesperson dismissed the apology, citing a history of Democrats calling for violence against Trump and his supporters.
