Texas Governor Greg Abbott endorsed former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, citing concerns about national security and border control.
Trump reciprocated by assuring Abbott that border security would improve.
The endorsement comes as Abbott becomes the fifth governor to support Trump’s candidacy.

“You need a new president,” Abbott said to a group of fellow governors.
“Joe Biden has failed at national security,” accused the Texan.
Demanding, “We need a president that will secure the border.”
“We need Donald J. Trump back as our president of the United States of America, continued Abbot.
“We need a president who is going to secure the border,” he insisted.
“I’m here today to officially proclaim my endorsement for Donald J. Trump to be President of the United States of America, again,” proclaimed Abbot.
The Texas governor warned that, “Joe Biden is causing a potential terror threat in the United States of America.
“A president has one ultimate responsibility and that’s national security. Joe Biden has failed at national security,” explained Abbot.
“Well, I’m here to tell you that there is no way, no way that America can continue under the leadership of Joe Biden as our president,” he repeated.
“I am going to make your job much easier. We love Texas.” exclaimed an excited Donald Trump.
Adding, “You’re not going to have to worry about the border anymore, governor.”
“You’re not going to have to worry about the border in Texas or Arizona or anywhere else,” promised the former president.
Trump told Abbot, “You’ll be able to focus on other things in Texas.”
Trump recognized that the public support from Abbot was “a big endorsement,” because he Abbot is “not free and easy with endorsements.”
Gov. Abbot and the former president then joined Texas DPS troopers and National Guardsmen protecting the border as part of Operation Lone Star.
“They should not be here at this time,” Abbott pointed out to the crowd.
“They should be at home. The only reason why they are here is because we have a president of the United States of America who is not securing our border,” lamented the Texan governor.
Border issues were central in the 2020 Texas election, and the endorsement follows an early Thanksgiving dinner served to law enforcement personnel by both Abbott and Trump.
