A violent protest outside the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) headquarters led to the injury of six police officers and the lockdown of House offices, drawing widespread condemnation from Republicans.
The protesters, demanding peace in the Middle East, were described as “socialists” and “Hamas supporters” by some lawmakers.
The incident prompted comparisons to the January 6 Capitol riot, with criticism directed at law enforcement and allegations of a double standard in justice. (Trending: Eight Republicans Who Shamefully Sided With Democrats Over Impeachment)

“Right now our officers are working to keep back approximately 150 people who are illegally and violently protesting in the area of Canal Street and Ivy Street, SE,” wrote the U.S. Capitol Police on X.
“Officers are making arrests. All Members have been evacuated from the area. Please stay away from the area,” advised law enforcement.
Sen. Marco Rubio slammed the “socialists” for the incident.
“Violent socialists Hamas supporters trying to storm the offices of the Democratic Party tonight in D.C,” wrote Rubio.
Rep. Andy Biggs commented, “The nation’s capital is under siege. Last week, it was the White House. This week, it’s the DNC.
Adding, “These left-wing lunatics have to be held accountable.”
Rep. Eli Crane criticized federal law enforcement agents for hypocrisy.
“The @FBI has arrested hundreds of people for entering the Capitol on January 6th. Given tonight’s chaos (we’ll see if they get the same treatment), it’s worth reminding everyone that they still have no idea who planted pipe bombs at the DNC & RNC that same day,” write Crane in a post.
Donald Trump’s former advisor Jason Miller joked, “DNC 2024 Convention is going to be lit.”
Rep. Kat Cammack told her followers that the U.S. Capitol was locked down.
“I am on Capitol Hill right now and it’s on lockdown,” said Cammack.
“No getting in or out of our offices. We have officers that were pepper sprayed by pro-Hamas protestors with a lot of people attempting to break into the Democratic HQ. Anyone else notice how violent the so-called ‘ceasefire’ crowd is?” she asked.
Sebastian Gorka did not hold back his criticism either, joking, “Democrat HQ in D.C. stormed by pro-Hamas lunatics. Just don’t call it an ‘insurrection,’ OK?”
Some defended the protesters’ actions, claiming the police response was “brutal.”
The chaotic situation led to the evacuation of members from the DNC building and a warning from Capitol Police to stay away from the area.
