Amazon is cutting “several hundred” jobs within its Alexa division as part of a shift in business priorities and a focus on generative AI.

The layoffs are characterized as a relatively small percentage of Amazon’s total workforce and are the result of discontinued initiatives.

The affected employees are being notified in stages, and the company stated that its investments in generative AI will remain a crucial part of its business. (Trending: ‘The View’ Host Suffers Anti-Trump Melt Down For the Ages)

“These shifts are leading us to discontinue some initiatives, which is resulting in role eliminations,” a spokesperson stated.

The news comes after previous job cuts in January and March due to an “uncertain economy” and cost reductions.
