Members of Detroit’s Jewish community traveled to Washington, DC, to march in solidarity with Israel in its conflict with Hamas, but were stranded at the airport due to a “malicious walk-off” by bus drivers.

Some buses failed to show up, preventing attendees from joining the event.

Democratic State Sen. Jeremy Moss was disappointed to hear the news after chartering an airplane to the event.

Moss complained about waiting several hours to deplane, only to discover that enough buses did not arrive, and they were to get back onto the plane.

The state senator said that hundreds of people were prevented from joining the “tremendous display of support … for the hostages and a strong rebuke of antisemitism,” happening at the protest.

The rally aimed to protest antisemitism and call for the release of hostages.

Senior Director of Community Affairs at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, David Kurzmann, released a statement after learning way there was a delay.

“We have learned from the bus company that this was caused by a deliberate and malicious walk-off of drivers,” wrote Kurzman.

“Fortunately, many were able to travel to the march, and we are grateful to the drivers of those buses that arrived,” he celebrated.

“While we are deeply dismayed by this disgraceful action, our resolve to proudly stand in solidarity with the people of Israel, to condemn antisemitism and to demand the return of every hostage held by Hamas has never been greater,” emphasized the director.
