Pro wrestling legend Ric Flair criticized ESPN’s Paul Finebaum for his comments on Michigan being dubbed “America’s team” due to the school’s recent hardships.

Finebaum debated whether it was fair to compare Michigan to the Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s, calling them the most talked about and reviled team in the country.

Flair supported former Michigan star Desmond Howard’s defense of the team and criticized Finebaum, emphasizing that Michigan is “America’s Team.” (Trending: Photos Released Of Cocaine Found In White House)

“Thank you @DesmondHoward for putting @Finebaum in his place! You’re right Michigan is America’s Team! And the only person with personal issues Is a non-athletic SEC journalist that should leave the great @CoachJim4UM & @UMichFootball alone,” wrote Flair on X.

Adding, “Can you imagine Paul Finebaum having the nerve to debate football with Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard? Outrageous! Go Blue! Wooooo!”

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had made the initial comment, asserting that the team beats adversity and naysayers.

Harbaugh reportedly said, “It’s gotta be America’s team. It’s gotta be America’s team.”

“America loves a team that beats the odds, beats the adversity, overcomes what the naysayers and critics, so-called experts think,” contested Harbaugh.

“That’s my favorite kind of team,” he added.

Harbaugh, who was suspended for a sign-stealing scandal, is seeking due process to avoid missing more games.

“I’m just looking for that opportunity, due process,” said Harbaugh about the investigation.

Adding, “I’m not looking for special treatment. I’m not looking for a popularity contest. I’m just looking for the merit for what the case is.”
