New Hampshire Secretary of State Dave Scanlan is set to announce the date of the state’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary, likely to be Jan. 23, despite potential DNC sanctions.
President Biden’s absence from the New Hampshire ballot due to an unsanctioned primary has sparked criticism from Governor Chris Sununu.
The DNC’s push to revamp the calendar and empower minority voters has led to resistance from New Hampshire, which has a longstanding tradition of retail-style politics. (Trending: Photos Released Of Cocaine Found In White House)
“I’m going to say a few things about why the New Hampshire primary is important to hold the lead-off position, and then I’ll announce the date,” revealed Scanlon to reporters on the night before he officially made the announcement.
He contested that “the narrative from the Democratic National Committee” citing diversity issues in New Hampshire “is not the real reason why this is going on, and there are more important reasons why New Hampshire should go first, and I’ll be discussing those tomorrow.”
New Hampshire Republican governor, Chris Sununu has been critical of Biden in the past.
“Joe Biden has completely screwed this up for himself and for the Democrats,” Sununu told Fox News Digital.
“We’re going first, no matter what,” he warned.
“It’s just insulting,” lamented the Governor.
“The president has insulted the Democrats of this state,” said Sununu.
Scanlon has also declared that they will move forward with their primary plan.
“I’m just assuming we’re going to be in noncompliance with the Democratic National Committee,” Scanlon reportedly old Fox News reporters.
Insisting that the DNC is “not going to affect what we do in New Hampshire at all.”
Despite Biden’s dominance in the nomination race, concerns are mounting over his age and potential setbacks in the primary.
The battle highlights the clash between tradition and diversity in the presidential nominating process.
