Ronna McDaniel, the Republican National Committee Chair, stated that the party would support Donald Trump as the GOP nominee, even if he has been convicted of a crime.
McDaniel emphasized the importance of supporting the candidate chosen by the voters, despite Trump facing multiple indictments and legal challenges.
“I know this is newsworthy but as party chair I’m gonna support who the voters choose,” McDaniel said. “And yes, if they choose Donald Trump.”
“The voters are looking at this and they think there’s a two-tiered system of justice,” McDaniel went on.
“They don’t believe a lot of the things that are coming out of this and they’re making these decisions and that’s reflected in the polls.”
Additionally, a New York Times/Siena College poll showed Trump leading President Joe Biden in five key swing states in a hypothetical matchup, despite the election being more than a year away.
Trump’s recent controversial Veterans Day speech, where he criticized political opponents, was also noted.
