Pro-Palestinian demonstrators caused chaos in New York City, leading to the temporary suspension of service at Grand Central Terminal.
Over a thousand individuals marched through the streets, tearing down posters and burning an Israeli flag.
The protest aimed to “flood Manhattan for Gaza,” with calls to resist and free Palestine.
Within Our Lifetime and the City University of New York for Palestine were two of the groups that helped coordinate the protest.
“Gaza calls, we respond. Palestine will be free, because when we resist we win together. Cease genocide. Cease the siege. Cease the blockade. Cease occupation. Cease funding Israel. Cease settler colonization. Cease Zionism. Cease imperialism,” demanded the groups on Instagram.
The NYPD arrested protesters, and the station was closed for a couple of hours due to the demonstration.
“You are unlawfully in the roadway. If you remain in the roadway and refuse to use the sidewalk, you will be placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct,” warned the NYPD after protesters blocked a road.
Demonstrators attempted to gain access to the terminal, causing damage to the doors.
Authorities locked the doors and restricted access to the station for several hours.
