Heirloom Carbon, a direct air capture (DAC) firm, opened its first facility in California with plans to remove 1 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2035.
The company will receive significant federal subsidies to repurpose captured carbon, and it has already secured a deal with Microsoft to remove 315,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
However, DAC technology is still unproven at scale, with concerns about potential emissions and high costs compared to other emissions mitigation techniques. (Trending: Donald Trump Gets Great News)

Despite this, DAC is expected to be a key part of the Biden administration’s efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2035.
