The United Nations has increased its appeal for funds to respond to the crisis in Gaza, now seeking around $1.2 billion, more than quadrupling the initial request.

The current appeal for $297 million is only about 25% funded at this time.

The Biden administration pledged $24 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars, but the move has been heavily criticized, as the funds are likely to benefit Hamas.

The number of displaced people in Gaza has reached nearly 1.5 million, with about 70% of the population affected.

The UN agency for Palestinians is accommodating nearly 700,000 people in facilities that are far over capacity.

There is no indication of a similar appeal for aid to Israel.
